I have no fever, but I have white spots on both tonsils. The left tonsils is swollen and my left ear sort of?

hurts. I do have a slight headache. but I am not congested nor would I say I have any cold or sinus symptom's. I have been taking 800 mg every 6 hours around the clock for more then 24 hours, plus I have been gargling with salt water at bedtime. This all started on friday night. What could it be? Should I see a doctor or ride it out? I just hate to go to the doctor and they do nothing for me, because then I fell like I have just wasted money.
