Can Roller derby be played in Artistic Rollerskates(quads)? and if not, why not?

I've seen it done very rarely but they change their wheels to be at least 34mm wide and the appropriate grippiness. You will have to work a LOT harder on artistic skates and probably won't max out your potential. Speed skates are much more functional. With artistic skates you don't have as much quick lateral movements or need for excessive speed so the smaller wheels are really good for things like spinning but not as good for speed. I think that eventually everyone ends up in speed skates but I don't see a lot of harm in it if you are just starting out in derby and can't afford to get new skates yet. Mostly you'll want to get speed skates when your skating skills and competitve level peak. Good luck!
